UDB i-Growth Accelerator 2017 Call for Innovations - Deadline 25th Jan 2018


The UDB i-Growth Accelerator 2017 will focus on supporting commercialization of local start-ups and stimulating a culture of innovation in Uganda so as to contribute to the country’s social economic development. The i-Growth Accelerator Program is an annual initiative that will support individuals to grow and expand their start-up enterprises in all sectors. For 2017, the Accelerator will focus on the Agriculture and Manufacturing sectors

The Healthy Villages Summer Internship 2018 - Uganda Village Project

Summer Internship

The Healthy Villages Summer Internship brings together undergraduate, graduate, international development, public health, and medical students from across the globe to work alongside rural communities as they are empowered to lead healthier lives. The 2018 internship dates are:

  • June 13 – August 12, 2018 for team members (8 weeks)
  • June 10 – August 12, 2018 for team leaders (8.5 weeks)

About the Internship


The Healthy Villages Internship provides a broad exposure to UVP’s diverse community health programs where interns engage with theories and practices of public health and international development in a grassroots context. Intern teams spend 8 weeks during the summer establishing, sustaining, and monitoring UVP’s public health and advocacy programs in rural communities throughout Iganga District. Ultimately, interns focus on grassroots health promotion strategies in order to improve public health in partnered villages.

The RAN Monthly Innovation Garage | The Jet Nebulizer | Friday 29th Sept 2017

The RAN monthly Innovation Garage is back again this Friday September 29, 2017 at the East African RAN Lab, Plot 28, Upper Terrace Kololo, 4:00pm EAT
This month we shall host: "The Jet Nebulizer"​ - that delivers nebulized medication for acute asthma. This device is manually operated using a bicycle pump, plastic tubings and a mask. All these have been locally assembled by a team of medical doctors from College of Health Sciences - Makerere University.

Hurdle: The device in its current phase is functional, although it is bulky and labor intensive. As usual and with your support the team would like to refine it and pilot it here in Uganda.

Do you want to be part of the conversation where smart Health solutions are powered by smart engineering techniques? Do not miss the Garage!!

The Innovation Garage at RAN remains a robust multi-disciplinary collaborative platform where innovators get quick fixes of their projects with very creative and brave individuals. We would like to see technologies developed in Africa launched on the global market and we hope to support local solutions that will transcend nations.

Invitation to the GDG (Google Developer Group ) DevFest Uganda 2017 - 30th September 2017 at Design Hub Kampala

Google Developer Group (GDG) Uganda invites you to the biggest DevFest in Uganda on 30th September 2017 at the Design Hub Kampala in Bugolobi from8:30 pm to 5:30 pmSee map for directions.

GDG Uganda, a collaboration among several GDGs in Uganda will bring together techies, entrepreneurs and industry players including Google representatives, for the Annual DevFest event, with different activities from Codelabs, speaker sessions and startup fireside chats.
GDG DevFest 2017 is aimed at equipping attendees with different skills, both technical and business, required for them to compete in the industry and also run successful companies.
As part of the GDG DevFest, on Saturday 7th October 2017, GDG Uganda will host a Firebase AppFest (Hackathon) for developers in Mobile and Web applications at Outbox Hub.

Opportunity for Entrepreneurs - GoBig Hub "The Hunt"

GoBigHub is launching a new television program called "The Hunt", as a way to fund entrepreneurs, teach investor preparedness and presentation skills, and entertain the public. Entrepreneurs seeking funding will pitch their ideas to local investors who will then question those entrepreneurs, and decide to invest. This is a great way for local entrepreneurs to get funding and gain publicity for their business. 

We are filming our first four episodes this Wednesday from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM, and we are looking for 24 total entrepreneurs to present a short (2-3 minute) pitch for their enterprise. GoBig Hub will advise them on how to best present their ideas and be investor ready before the cameras start rolling. 

Could you please pass this opportunity on to your entrepreneurs? If they are interested in appearing on the first 4 episodes they will need to return the "Get Funded form" to us by Monday

Through four years of intensive learning and real work experience on the world’s leading engineering teams, you’ll master the professional and technical skills needed to become a global technology leader.
THE APPLICATION PROCESS

Stage 1: Application and Aptitude Assessment
First, you’ll complete a free application, which lets us learn more about you. Within two weeks of your application, you will receive an online evaluation that measures logical reasoning and personality fit.

Stage 2: Home Study
You’ll need to complete an introduction to software development self-study course focused on Python. You can find the downloadable version of this course here. During the course, you’ll complete a Technical Skills Test that will evaluate your knowledge of the content you’ve learned.

Stage 3: Panel Interviews
Based on performance on the Aptitude Assessment and Technical Skills Test, we invite a select group of applicants to interview with Andela. If selected, you’ll receive an email inviting you to interview with a panel of staff members and other Andela developers.

Stage 4: One Week Immersive Onsite
Successful applicants participate in a one-week immersive onsite led by our senior developers. The one week is comprised of product development and you’ll be expected to learn independently as well as work on a team to deliver a final project.

Stage 5: Acceptance
The highest performing participants are accepted* into Andela’s four-year Technical Leadership Program.
